Blockout Roller Blinds — Total Light Control for Bedrooms and Media Rooms
Blockout roller blinds use a specially constructed opaque fabric that stops light from passing through the blind face itself. Paired with side channels or a cassette housing that closes the gap between the blind and the window frame, they can eliminate virtually all incoming light — making them the preferred choice for bedrooms, nurseries, home theatres, and anywhere a proper sleep environment matters.
Our blockout roller blind range is available in a wide selection of colours and textures, from clean whites and neutrals to deeper charcoals and blacks. Every blind is custom made to your exact measurements and dispatched with all the hardware you need for a straightforward DIY installation.

Frequently asked questions
Are blockout roller blinds 100% blackout?
The blockout fabric itself blocks light through the blind face, but light can still enter around the edges between the blind and the window frame — this is called light bleed or light gap. To achieve near-total darkness, choose a blind with a cassette housing that covers the headrail and side channels that close the gap between the fabric edge and the window frame. Contact us if you need a full blackout installation and we can advise on the right system.
What colours are available for blockout roller blinds?
Our blockout range covers a wide spectrum — from bright whites and warm off-whites for rooms where you want to keep things light when the blind is raised, through to mid-toned greys and beiges, and deeper charcoals and near-blacks for maximum light absorption. Browse our blockout collection to see the full fabric swatch range.
Are blockout blinds suitable for children's rooms?
Yes — blockout blinds are one of the most popular choices for children's bedrooms and nurseries. Eliminating morning light helps young children (and their parents) sleep longer, and the same blind continues to be useful for years as the child grows. Cordless or motorised operation options are also worth considering for child safety.
Can blockout roller blinds also insulate against cold?
Standard blockout fabrics provide modest thermal benefit because the opaque coating reduces radiant heat transfer through the glass. For maximum insulation alongside blockout, look at thermal-backed blockout fabrics or honeycomb blinds with a blockout fabric — the cellular structure of honeycomb adds a much more significant insulating layer.
How do I measure for a blockout roller blind?
Measure the same way as any roller blind — internal width and drop for a recess fit, or window width plus overlap for a face-fix installation. If you're trying to minimise light bleed, a face-fix installation with a cassette housing that sits tight against the wall will give the best result. Our measuring guide covers both options.
