Roman Blinds

Timeless fabric folds that bring softness and elegance to any room.

Roman Blinds — Timeless Elegance, Made to Your Measurements

Roman blinds bring a softness to windows that hard-structured blinds simply can't match. When raised, the fabric gathers into neat horizontal folds; when lowered, it falls flat and smooth. This combination of simplicity and texture makes roman blinds one of the most enduringly popular choices for New Zealand living rooms, bedrooms, and dining areas.

We offer roman blinds in a wide range of fabrics — from sheer and semi-sheer weaves that let diffused light wash through a room, to fully lined options that provide complete privacy and light block-out. All blinds are made to your exact window measurements and shipped with all fitting hardware included.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a roman blind and a roller blind?

A roller blind rolls up tightly into a tube at the top of the window — minimal and very neat when raised. A roman blind folds into soft, structured horizontal pleats as it rises, creating a more textile-rich, decorative look. Roman blinds suit rooms where fabric and warmth are important; roller blinds suit clean, contemporary spaces or windows where a low-profile finish is preferred.

Can roman blinds be fully lined for blockout?

Yes. Our roman blinds are available with a blackout lining that blocks virtually all incoming light, making them suitable for bedrooms, nurseries, and media rooms. The lining is fitted to the back of the face fabric and doesn't affect the fold pattern or appearance from inside the room.

Are roman blinds difficult to operate?

No — roman blinds are raised and lowered with a simple cord or chain system and lock into position at any height. With use, the fold lines settle and become easier to guide. They're a practical everyday window covering, not just a decorative one.

Are roman blinds suitable for kitchens or bathrooms?

Roman blinds are best suited to dry rooms — living areas, bedrooms, and dining rooms. In kitchens or bathrooms, fabric can be affected by steam, cooking grease, and humidity over time. For those areas we generally recommend a moisture-resistant roller blind or aluminium venetian blind instead.

How do I measure for a roman blind?

For an inside-recess fit, measure the internal width and drop precisely — roman blinds need to fit snugly to hang flat. For an outside (face-fix) fit, add at least 50 mm to each side and 100 mm above the window to minimise light bleed around the edges. Our measuring guide covers both methods in detail.
